The Archdiocese of New Orleans has established the My House Men’s Group to help men end their addiction to pornography. The group provides a Catholic focus on prayer and recovery in every man’s battle for sexual integrity.

First graders at St. Angela Merici recently learned that one good deed can create a positive “ripple” felt by people living thousands of miles away. After the Carnival break, the first graders practiced the environmental “three Rs” of “reduce, reuse and recycle” by taking items that normally would end up in the trash can and incorporating them into pieces of art or practical items.

On April 8, St. Mary Magdalen pre-K3 and 4 students took part in a Trike-A-Thon benefiting St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Assisting the 45 riders were their St. Mary Magdalen “buddies” from middle school.

As a culmination to their year-long study of Louisiana history, third graders at Academy of the Sacred Heart donned period dress to  serve as docents April 14 at the 1799-built Bayou St. John residence of James Pitot – New Orleans’ first American-born mayor.

A 2010-11 service-learning grant from the Brown Foundation enabled St. Francis Xavier sixth and seventh graders to learn about the vital ministry of St. Vincent de Paul Community Pharmacy, which provides free prescription medications to indigent, ill and elderly who are on a fixed income.

Members of the Speech and Drama teams at St. Rita School in New Orleans presented the Passion on April 21 in St. Rita Church. The actors, led by Johnny Fisher in the role of Jesus (at left, being offered sour wine on the cross, and at right, being carried to the tomb), incorporated interpretive dance, singing, dramatic monologues and prayer into the riveting production.

As residents of mostly rural Washington Parish, the majority of students at Annunciation School either own horses, ride them or regularly see them grazing in fields. So when educators at the Bogalusa school learned of a program that connected children’s interest in horses with a love for reading, they snapped up the idea and ran with it.
