St. Joseph Seminary College kicked off the new school year with its largest enrollment in 35 years. The 121 students enrolled in the seminary college north of Covington marked their first day of class by gathering at the St. Joseph Abbey Church on Aug. 26 for the Mass of the Holy Spirit, with Benedictine Abbot Justin Brown offering prayers for a blessed school year.

Calvin Moret, 88, doesn’t remember Aug. 28, 1963, with clarity, but on the day Dr. Martin Luther King delivered his “I Have A Dream” speech at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., Moret doesn’t think he was glued to his radio or TV.

In the short time he has been the assignment secretary for the Greater New Orleans Football Officials’ Association, Kevin Boitmann has seen many positive changes in the organization. Principals, athletic directors  and head football coaches from four area schools, which had previously chosen not to use the local association to officiate their games, have returned; 20 new officials have joined the group, and the man they work for at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association office is happy with their progress over the past two years.

On Sept. 11, most parishes around the archdiocese will be available for the sacrament of reconciliation. This is the third consecutive year you have done this on an archdiocese-wide basis. Why did you decide to that and what have the results been?
