Daughter of Charity Sister Mary Louise Happich, a native of New Orleans and longtime elementary school teacher and principal, died Dec. 11 at Seton Residence in Evansville, Indiana. She was 91 and had served for 70 years in religious life.

Deacon Anthony “Tony” J. Ferretti, a native of New Orleans who served as a permanent deacon in the Archdiocese of New Orleans for 36 years, died Dec. 22 at the age of 86.

2020. It still seems surreal. A new decade, a new year that holds promise and expectation. I’m not one to do new year’s resolutions. Promising to make X number of changes seems like an excellent start to the year. But, so many people fall short due to the unrealistic aspect of their resolution.

St. Rita of Harahan’s Home and School Association attended and received a TriColor Publicity Award at the CCSCC 77th annual luncheon held Dec. 12 at Copeland Tower Suites in Metairie.

St. Mary’s Dominican High School’s head volleyball coach Jessica Chatellier was named Division I Coach of the Year by the Louisiana Volleyball Coaches Association (LVCA), and team members Elizabeth Hardouin, Kate Baker and Olivia Peyton were named to the LVCA All-State Team.

St. Mary’s Dominican High School Cheerleaders placed in their competition category at the November 10th Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Regional Tournament at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond.

St. Mary’s Dominican High School inducted 53 students into the Veritas Chapter of the National English Honor Society (NEHS). Founded by Sigma Tau Delta, NEHS is the only international organization exclusively for high school students and faculty who, in their field of English, merit special note for past and current accomplishments. 

St. Mary’s Dominican High School presents its annual Lou Reilly Award to the athlete “who continually tries to improve her skills and who has listened to her coaches and teammates. This is an athlete who encourages those playing while she is not in the game, and while playing herself, gives her full effort at each moment.”

Academy of Our Lady’s chapter of the National Honor Society hosted its annual schoolwide annual holiday food drive. Each homeroom participated and collected a total 765 items for the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Immaculate Conception Parish in Marrero.

The Academy of Our Lady Cheerleaders were recently named the LHSAA Division II 2019 Game Day State Runner Up. The squad also won first place in the Game Day Division at the Spirit Blast Competition.

Academy of Our Lady’s Golden Torch Society honors academic achievement on the ACT – the Core of Excellence includes students who have scored a composite of 30 or above on the ACT; and the Inner Circle of students with a composite of 25 or above.

Academy of Our Lady students currently enrolled in the Health Occupation Intern I elective class completed their clinical rotations at West Jefferson Medical Center and were presented with a graduation certificate by the education coordinator at the closure ceremony.

Seniors Abby Reams and Rory Trosclair were finalists in the Drew Brees Foundation “Trust Your Crazy Ideas Challenge,” placing among the 20 groups narrowed down from 400 applicants. The Challenge inspires students to dream of starting their own business through participation in Junior Achievement’s Catalyst, a 5 session program that guides the students through elements of a business model...

Mount Carmel Academy  has received a $5,000 STEM grant from the Toshiba America Foundation (TAF) to support robotics and engineering programs, provide equipment and parts, as well as additional opportunities for students to compete in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) competitions. MCA’s Robotics team members will benefit from soldering irons, power tools, Mecanum wheels and a competition set to take their club to the next level.
