Dominican Father Manuel Solorzano-Zerpa is named the new director of the Hispanic Apostolate of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. He takes over from his fellow Dominican priest, Father Sergio Serrano, who served for 10 years.

Father Richard Miles, the former pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) Church in Kenner, who died June 15 at the age of 80 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after having served for 39 years as a priest of the Archdiocese of New Orleans.

Father Billy O'Riordan, who served as Archdiocese of New Orleans director of seminarians for the last nine years, has been succeeded by Father David Ducote, pastor of St. Joan of Arc, LaPlace.

The Office of Marriage and Family Life sponsored its 60th annual Golden Wedding Anniversary celebration June 25 with Archbishop Gregory Aymond as presider. 129 couples married in 1973 or earlier participated in the prayer service.

For the last nine years, Sister of Mount Carmel Beth Fitzpatrick has served as head of the archdiocesan Office of Religious, where she has been a point person for the dozens of congregations of religious men and women who serve in a vast array of ministries. She (stepped down June 30).

Sister of the Holy Family Sylvia Thibodaux and historian Dr. Virginia Gould traveled to Rome in January to meet Hilgeman, who had been recommended by Cardinal Peter Turkson because of his credentials and his current work in promoting other sainthood causes.
