Students Are Awarded Scholarships During St. Martin De Porres Awards Ceremony At St. Mary’s Dominican

Grandparents throughout the Archdiocese of New Orleans descended Nov. 1 on the Academy of Our Lady campus in Marrero for the recent Grandparents’ Day. Grandparents were invited to campus to celebrate All Saints’ Day for Mass with their granddaughters. Prior to Mass, grandparents and students were treated to coffee and donuts.

New members were recently elected for St. Clement of Rome Cooperative Club board for the 2018-19 year. St. Mary’s Dominican High School’s National Art Honor Society (NAHS) inducted 33 members during recent ceremonies. Guest speakers were Dominican Father John Restrepo, Dominican’s chaplain and an artist; and Christy Wood, co-owner of LeMieux Gallery.

Academy of Our Lady Seniors gathered in the school library during their lunch-study hall Oct. 15 for College Application Day hosted by the guidance department.

Academy of Our Lady all-girls’ high school in Marrero inducted its  2018-19 Student Council officers, class officers and homeroom representatives after a recent Mass.. Student Council members took a pledge in front of the student body to uphold their positions while keeping Catholic Christian values at the center of their decision making.

St. Paul’s School’s administration, faculty and student body celebrated the first Mass of the 2018-19 school year in the Briggs Assembly Center on Aug. 15. In addition to celebrating the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 26 seniors were commissioned as extraordinary ministers of holy Communion by Father Matthew Clark, school chaplain.

St. Ann Home and School Association recently installed its executive board members. They are: Laura Demalas, secretary; Tammy Vaccaro, co-president; Courtney Fox, co-president; Shelly Nunes, parliamentarian; Kristen Nugent, treasurer.

St. Paul’s School sponsored the continuing education of seven faculty members in the Lasallian Studies Program at the annual Buttimer Institute held on the campus of Manhattan College in New York.

Academy of Our Lady Key Club placed third in the “Year in Review” contest for its traditional scrapbook at the 75th Annual Convention of LAMISSTENN District of Key Club International April 13-15 in Baton Rouge. LAMISSTENN covers several Key Clubs over 16 divisions and three states (Louisiana, Mississippi and western Tennessee). 

Academy of Our Lady faculty member Joseph Bordlee is the winner of Barnes and Noble’s My Favorite Teacher Contest. Senior Calli Nguyen, of Harvey, nominated Bordlee by submitting an essay detailing how influential Bordlee has been throughout her high school education.

Academy of Our Lady junior Megan Russell, of Gretna, placed second in District 3 for Sociology at the Louisiana High School State Literary Rally held April 21 at Louisiana State University.

Ursuline Academy participated in the citywide “300 Angels of Unity NOLA Tricentennial Project” in a big way on May 7. The initiative called on everyone in New Orleans to be an “angel” by wearing wings to school, work and their favorite places throughout the city.

Academy of Our Lady Seniors Hailee Richard and Breanne Breaux were honored April 9 before the softball game against Ponchatoula High School at Penguin Park. Their teammates and family members reminisced and honored the seniors for their contribution to Academy of Our Lady’s softball program.
