On Feb. 3, Archbishop Chapelle High School students packed 20,000 cans of food to be delivered to Second Harvest Food Bank in Harahan. Students also raised enough money to provide an additional 4,000 meals to be served to local individuals and families who are food insecure.
Archbishop Gregory Aymond greeted students at the Metairie school and lauded them for their generosity and putting faith into action.
Timing was apropos, as well, considering it was Catholic Schools Week (CSW) and service is a hallmark of Catholic schools and part of the 2021 nationwide CSW theme “Faith, Excellence and Service.”
Chapelle’s National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society organized the food drive. In recent years, Chapelle had collected 13,000 cans of food, so this was a significant increase to meet growing demand in the area.
