Catholic churches in the Central Business District of New Orleans will celebrate Ash Wednesday, March 5, and Lenten Masses as follows:
St. Louis Cathedral will offer Masses at 7:30 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. on Ash Wednesday, with ashes distributed at all Masses following the homily. Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond will preside at the noon Mass.
Sunday Masses during Lent will be the 5 p.m. vigil on Saturdays and on Sundays at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Masses also will be celebrated Monday through Saturday at 7:30 a.m. and noon. The sacrament of reconciliation will be heard Monday through Friday from 11 to 11:45 a.m. and on Saturday from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Stations of the Cross will be held on Fridays after the noon Mass.
Immaculate Conception Church, 130 Baronne St., Masses on Ash Wednesday will be at 7:30 a.m., noon, 4:15 and 5:30 p.m., with confessions heard 30 minutes before each of the four scheduled Masses. Ashes will be distributed at each Mass. Masses Monday through Friday during Lent will be at 7:30 a.m. and noon. Weekend schedule as usual (4 p.m. Saturday, Sunday at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m.; and 7:30 p.m.) Way of the Cross will follow the noon Mass on Fridays. Confessions will be heard Monday through Friday from 11 to 11:50 a.m., Saturdays from 3:15 to 3:50 p.m., and Sundays from 7 to 7:25 p.m.
Due to Mardi Gras festivities, the Mass/confession schedule has been modified as follows: March 1, no confessions or 4 p.m. Mass; March 2, no confessions or 7:30 p.m. Mass; March 3, 7:30 a.m. Mass but no confessions or noon Mass; and March 4, church closed.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 411 N. Rampart St., will offer Masses on Ash Wednesday at 7 a.m., noon, 4 and 6 p.m., with distribution of ashes at each Mass. Daily Masses during Lent will be Monday through Friday at 7 a.m. and noon, and Saturday morning at 7 a.m. Weekend Masses are Saturday vigil Mass at 4 p.m. and Sundays at 7:30, 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.; 1:30 p.m. (Spanish) and 6 p.m. Confessions will be heard each Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. Way of the Cross will be recited on Fridays at 11:30 a.m.
