Jesuit Father Edwin L. Gros blessed a plaque in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 sponsored by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution’s Spirit of ’76 chapter to honor the 265 Louisiana patriots who fought in the Revolutionary War under Gen. Bernardo de Gálvez.
Most of the patriots are buried in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1. A year-long effort that included research, national approvals and planning paved the way for the plaque. The dedication was part of the “America250!” celebration,” which commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War. Robert Gray Freeland, right above, portrayed Gálvez in full uniform and answered questions about Gálvez at a luncheon.
