Easter is a season to remind us of all the hope we as Christians we should be living with. The length our God will go for us can be seen not only in the cross but in the resurrection.
Most of my meditation during the Triduum was focusing on the events that led to the main event of Good Friday: The betrayal, the scourging, all the suffering and eventual death on the cross. Somehow, for me, those events seemed to overshadow the resurrection. When the resurrection is just as important as Good Friday, the enemy, death, does not have the final word.
There are many struggles in life, and it can be a temptation to lose sight of the bigger picture. The suffering in our own lives can take center stage if we let it.
Easter is our yearly reminder that God wins. But this reminder shouldn’t be just for Easter. We should recall God’s faithfulness daily.
In the book of Joshua, the Israelites were finally led from the wilderness into the Promised Land. The Levitical priests carrying the ark of the covenant led the Israelites across the Jordan River on dry ground.
Afterwards, one member of each of the 12 tribes of Israel was instructed to gather a stone from the riverbed where the priests stood on dry ground. Those stones were then stacked on top of each other as a sign to remember what God had done. It was a sign to commemorate God’s faithfulness.
Our heavenly Father is always making a way for us. God promised he would not abandon us. This is what God does for us. The events of Jesus’ death on the cross for the forgiveness of sins and the resurrection should be stones we stack to remind us of what God has done for us.
Where else in your own life can you gather stones to stack to remind yourself and others of God’s love and faithfulness?
