The Hispanic Apostolate of the Archdiocese of New Orleans is celebrating national Hispanic Heritage month with several activities in October.
The Viva NOLA Fest Herencia Hispana and Carnaval Latino virtual experience will be held Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. at the Hispanic Apostolate, 2525 Maine Ave., Metairie. The event will be recorded for online viewership at Facebook.com/vivanolamag.
Featured entertainment will be provided by Fermin Ceballos and Merengue-4, Deco Martinez, Vive Mi Tierra and Tango by Maureen and Carlos. There will also be a cooking demonstration with chef Will Avelar, a poem recital by Daniella Bello and prizes for viewers.
The apostolate will also celebrate Columbus Day Oct. 12 with an outdoor Mass at 5:30 p.m. Traditional dances from various Latino countries will be performed after Mass.
National Hispanic Heritage Month, ending Oct. 15, began as a commemorative week in 1968 to pay tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans that have influenced and enriched our nation and society through their history and culture.
