Local couples mark 25-plus years of Catholic marriage

The annual Silver Wedding Anniversary celebration, sponsored by the Office of Marriage and Family Life of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, was held March 26 at St. Joseph Church in New Orleans. All couples married during 1998 were invited to attend, and 49 couples accepted the invitation, with clergy, relatives and friends of the jubilarians also in attendance.

Archbishop Gregory Aymond presided at the prayer service, which included a Renewal of Commitment between the couples and a Blessing of Married Couples.

During the homily, following John’s Gospel descibing the presence of Jesus, Mary and the disciples at the Wedding Feast at Cana, Archbishop Gregory Aymond reminded the honorees that in addition to making vows to one another in the sacrament of matrimony, a “special guest” who was also present at their wedding – Jesus – had made the same vows to each couple to be with them, in both good and difficult times throughout their married lives.

Several of the couples observed anniversaries of more than 25 years. This year’s honorees are:

30 Years
