    A memorial park, dedicated to those of Irish descent who built the New Basin Canal and have continued to contribute to the fabric of the city of New Orleans as well as nationwide, was blessed and dedicated May 12 on a 4-acre site on Pontchartrain Boulevard. The first phase features a Celtic cross, a main 283-foot bluestone walkway with Celtic knot inlays, six, semicircular brick benches flanking the cross, landscaping, lighting and the creation of a bermed-earth replica of the New Basin Canal.
